A group of German technology developers have just come out with a new patent on a phone chip that can send scents via text messaging. Apparently they have been working on these chips for 8 years and could be releasing them to the public by 2010.
There will be about 100 different smells available on these new phones. The researchers have so far only worked on floral and other enjoyable scents, but the possibilities are endless. In order to use this type of technology you would need to have a special phone, and luckily these phones will have the option to reject a message if you choose to.
So if you’re missing the smell of the ocean breeze, or want to send a loved one a virtual bouquet, once these new smell-phones come out, you will be able to do it all.
