Verizon Wireless has announced the release of the LG Voyager by Thanksgiving of 2007. While Verizon won’t say that the Voyager is their answer to the hugely popular Apple Iphone, a quick glance at the Voyager’s appearance says it for you. The Voyager looks very similar to the Iphone from the outside and the look and layout of it’s applications look very similar as well.
Many phones prior to the Iphone had the ability to browse the internet, send email, listen to music, and more. I had a Samsung Blackjack that did all of this. But it was very clumsy and difficult to get around to those features so I never even used it’s multi-media capabilities. But the Iphone’s ease-of-use (with Itunes, Iphoto, etc.), touch screen, and slick applications helped to position Apple far ahead of the competition.
After the Iphone was released it seemed like many people just thought the game was over and the Iphone would be the only multi-media phone worth buying. While, I wouldn’t dare say that the Voyager stands up the Iphone, it does show that their will be plenty of multi-media phones released that will comparable in features and value to the Iphone. I expect this battle to proceed similarly to the MP3 player battle. Apple will continue to lead the pack with the newest and hippest phones and the competition will look to offer comparable phones at a cheaper price.
