Blu-ray vs HD-DVD

In the recent battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD formatting for High-Definition DVD’s, the Blu-ray camp has recently received several key “endorsements”.  Netflix, Blockbuster, and Best Buy have all publicly announced their support of Blu-ray over HD-DVD.

With Netflix and Blockbuster both on board, the fight for the rental market is basically over as the online subscription services offered by these two companies will dominate the market moving forward.  Best Buy’s announcement to push customers toward Blu-ray is also a huge victory for Blu-ray.  Best Buy is one of the most popular electronic retailer and this will have a huge effect on perception when consumers try to make their decisions.

In addition to these key endorsements, 4 of the 6 major movie studios have already backed Blu-ray.
