What Is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds?
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG as it’s commonly called, is an online multiplayer first-person shooter battle royale game in which up to 100 players can compete at once. The object of the game is to be the last man standing. PUBG can be played in single player mode, in duos or in four-players teams. Most people play PUBG with a first-person view although there is an option to play it in the third person. Each point of view comes with advantages and disadvantages.
Players begin the game on an airplane that randomly flies over a map area called the circle. There are currently four different maps that are between four by four kilometers up to eight by eight kilometers in size. Armed with nothing but a parachute, players jump out of the plane and land on the map area where they must find weapons, equipment, and even vehicles that are randomly scattered throughout the playing field. Every few minutes, an airplane will drop packages that contain special items that cannot be found on the ground. Naturally, trying to retrieve these loot boxes usually results in deadly skirmishes. Players can also obtain weapons and equipment by looting players they kill.
In solo mode, players are eliminated once they are killed but they can be revived in duo and team modes if their teammates react in time. Aside from the rest of players who are trying to kill you, other threats exist such “red zones” in which bombs are dropped. Players must also be aware that the map area becomes smaller as the game progresses. This forces players to engage in battle and ensures a fast pace.
Gameplay and Maps
Brendan Greene describes a PUBG game as having three phases with each one requiring a different approach. The first phase of the game is the airdrop at the start of the game. A player must consider when and where to jump. Some people like to end up within a pack of players in a resource-rich area while others prefer to land in a less congested area. Greene refers to the second stage as the loot game. This is the time to gather as much equipment as possible. Players need to know where to look and they have to keep their eyes peeled for enemies who may also be looking to collect the same item. The final phase of the game is the actual combat. This is when players need to seek strategic locations such as buildings and abandoned villages so they can wipe out the competition. They must be ready to react to a variety of situations from spotting and killing opponents to successfully retrieving airdropped loot boxes that contain better equipment.
The four different maps each have unique features and require different strategies. The game’s first map is named “Erangel” and it was based on a region in Russia. The eight kilometer by eight kilometer playing area features four major cities, nine smaller ones, and three landmarks. The landscape is dotted with several drab buildings inspired by 1950s Soviet architecture along with urban areas, farms and plenty of foliage. There are 633 vehicle spawns, 24,058 loot spawns, and 4,689 weapons spawns.
Miramar, the second map that developers came up with, is also eight kilometers by eight kilometers and it consists of desert plains containing seven major cities, nine minor cities, and a pair of landmarks. There are 452 vehicle spawns, 43,343 loot spawns, and 7,929 weapon spawns. The Sanhok map was the third map to be developed and it is a four kilometer by four kilometer battleground that is based on humid and tropical islands in Southeast Asia. With eight major cities and over a dozen large landmarks, nearly half of the Sanhok map is jungle. There are 13,889 loot spawns, 4,546 weapon spawns, and 198 vehicle spawns.
The latest map to be released is Vikendi which is a fictional six kilometer by six kilometer island located in the Adriatic Sea. There are four major cities, eleven smaller cities and eleven major landmarks. Due to frequent snowfall, players have to be careful about leaving footprints in the snow.
There are 336 vehicle spawns, 28,614 loot spawns and 5,443 weapon spawns. It is worth mentioning that there is also a practice range where players can test weapons and vehicles while honing their combat skills. It is a two kilometer by two kilometer area where up to 20 players can practice and experiment with different tactics.
Betting On PUBG For Real Money
Since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is relatively new and the formats for competition are currently being refined, there aren’t quite as many wager types available at online and mobile betting sites. However, there are still plenty of excellent betting opportunities out there especially when it comes to wagering on moneylines. There are loads of PUBG matches being played throughout the year and the best PUBG betting sites like William Hill and Betway offer the most competitive moneylines available. Some online betting sites are starting to introduce other wager types and it shouldn’t be long before handicap betting, totals, and other proposition bets become standard PUBG offerings just as they are with other mainstream eSports.
The first PUBG tournament of note, the Charity Invitational, was held in May 2017 after the game had sold over 2 million copies. Bluehole promised to match all cash donations to the Gamers Outreach Foundation up to a total of $100,00. 128 players were invited to participate and the event ended up raising over $220,000 including Bluehole’s $100,000 contribution. In August 2017, Bluehole and the ESL got together to organize their first PUBG tournament which featured a $350,000 prize pool. There were events for solo players, duos and teams. Each match consisted of three games and the winners were decided based on the total scores. A third major PUBG tournament took place in November 2017 and it featured 20 four-player teams fighting for a piece of the $200,000 prize pool.
Since those first PUBG tournaments in 2017, there have been dozens of major PUBG events held all over the world. StarSeries, the PGL-PUBG Spring Invitational, and the PUBG Southeast Asia Championships were just a few highlights in 2018. The Broadcaster Royale, which was held in Seattle, and the Broadcaster Royale: OMEN Challenge which was held in San Jose both had $300,000 in prize money up for grabs. There have already been over a dozen major PUBG tournaments in 2019 including the Asia Pacific Predator League and the PUBG Japan Series. Those who want to start betting on PUBG can look forward to many more high-profile PUBG tournaments in 2019 and beyond.
Fans of eSports are likely familiar with Team Liquid, FaZe Clan, and Cloud9. These teams are forces in other eSports and they are top-10 money earners in PUBG too. Natus Vincere, OGN Entus, Actoz Stars, and KSV eSports have also been quite successful. OMG made their mark when they won the PUBG Global Invitational 2018 – First Person Perspective and walked away with $430,000 of the $1 million prize pool. Gen.G Gold took the honors along with $420,000 in the Third Person Perspective portion of the event.
Four Angry Men, Team Kongdoo, AVANGAR, and Vici Gaming have found limited success competing in at least 10 major events while Snake Esports, Welcome to South Georgo, and Team Roccat have done well in their tournament appearances. 17Gaming, EntusF, LGE, and Luminous Stars also deserve mentions as teams to watch out for in 2019
Creating a PUBG Betting Strategy
Even though PUBG events are becoming more streamlined and bookmakers are producing tighter odds, PUBG can still be rather unpredictable which can be advantageous to those who have in-depth knowledge of the game. Just remember that a sound PUBG betting strategy begins before you analyze matchups and place bets. A good betting strategy starts with finding the right PUBG betting site. There are countless online betting sites that offer PUBG wagering and comparing them can be quite a chore but it is definitely worth your time. Fortunately, Chip Analyst offers loads of information that can help you find the right site.
As a PUBG bettor, your goal is to end up with more money in your betting account than you started out with. One of the best ways to get off to a profitable start is by choosing an online sportsbook that offers the best bonus and the most competitive odds. Many PUBG betting sites will double or even triple the amount of your first deposit and this will put you way ahead. As great as some of these bonuses are, punters should also consider the types of ongoing promotions that are offered. Several of the best betting sites in the world regularly offer promotions such as odds boosts, acca insurance, and free bets. These can go a long way toward your goal of making money. Never underestimate the value of a good loyalty rewards program Getting the best odds is very important and it sometimes means having betting accounts at different sites. You might see that 888Sport is has Team Liquid priced at -120 while Ladbrokes lists them at -105. You are obviously better off taking them at -105. It might seem trivial but those little discrepancies in price can add up and be the difference between winning money and losing money over the course of a PUBG betting season.
Taking advantage of any edge you can get will give you a much better chance of succeeding in the long run. Of course, aside from claiming sports betting bonuses, punters also need to do their homework if they want to make a profit from PUBG wagering. Blindly betting on a team is a great way to make a match more interesting but it isn’t a part of a good betting strategy. Successful PUBG bettors take the time to study teams and their tendencies in order to figure out their strengths and weaknesses. One team might excel on a certain map while the other team struggles on it. Watching teams play gives you a sense of their team dynamics, approach and overall strategy which is immensely helpful.
It also behooves a PUBG bettor to know who the top players are. Just as the New England Patriots aren’t as good without Tom Brady, FaZe Clan isn’t as strong without Fuzzface in their lineup. You definitely want to know the status of star players like Kaymind, Ibiza, ChocoTaco or Shroud before you place a bet on their teams.
Lastly, you should protect your bankroll by using a proper money management technique. Never expose too much of your bankroll at once. Sticking to stakes that are proportional to a small percentage of you bankroll will ensure that you can keep on enjoying your PUBG betting experience even if you hit a cold streak. So? What are you waiting for? It’s the right time to claim a valuable bonus and get in on the exciting PUBG betting action.
